The need
The Italian Air Force has decided to introduce some mobile units to be allocated for the meteorological support of flight departments arrayed at operating sites not equipped with fixed structures.
The solution
I&SI has designed and built a shelter fitted as a complete meteorological unit that is independent, air-transportable, correct for dimensions to the standard ISO STD 668 type 1, expandable and fully satisfying the most stringent military standards in terms of operating range, electromagnetic shielding and continuity of operation.
The system is equipped with everything necessary for the acquisition of meteorological data necessary for an airport.
The UMM is made out of aluminium to keep weight in load capacity of the transport aircraft, and is certified and structured to withstand an impact of high kinetic energy.
Among other main features: the possibility for “auto-load” by the autonomous system of movement and the hydraulic lifting and levelling system. A single operator, via remote control, can drive the unit in the loading phase and deployment during operation. A system of high security (intrusion detection, and CCTV) carries out the protection of the system in its operations. The special air conditioning system provides the NBC protection. Among the many facilities:
